Make the most of your stay in our hotel to discover the charm and beauty of the Haute-Loire department. Perfect for outdoor excursions and activities, Haute-Loire offers legendary trails such as the Saint-Jacques or Stevenson trails, and welcomes visitors to its Respirando areas (areas surrounded by nature from which visitors can enjoy numerous outdoor activities without needing to travel further) and stations (places offering accommodation and a wide range of outdoor activities) to enjoy the fresh, clean air while enjoying environmentally friendly outdoor sports and activities.
All year round, the department offers visitors the opportunity to really return to their roots amid its magnificent, varied landscape. Lovers of old buildings and pretty villages will be thrilled with the architectural wealth of this small corner of Auvergne. They can wander through the lanes of the village of Blesle, admiring the charming, half-timbered houses, or stroll around the old Benedictine abbey of Lavaudieu, a delightful, peaceful haven that is home to the only intact Romanesque cloister in Auvergne.
There are a great many other villages that are well worth a visit, including Auzon, Lavoute-Chilhac, La Chaise-Dieu, with its famous abbey, Chanteuges, Pradelles and Polignac, with its fortress, perched atop a majestic rocky spur. The château of Chavaniac-Lafayette is another unmissable sight in Haute-Loire. Birthplace of the famous Marquis de Lafayette, who played an important role in the fight for American independence, this 14th-century fortified house is extremely well preserved. While visiting the château, you can view the room in which the Marquis was born, the treasure room and the philosophers' hall, and also walk through the gardens, which are graced by a three-hundred-year-old oak, planted by Lafayette's grandfather.
The hotel is ideally positioned for those who wish to explore the department of Haute-Loire in Auvergne and also take in Ardèche in the Rhône Alpes region. You can also enjoy the landscapes of Velay and Haut Vivarais which invite all to enjoy a walk or hike amid an abundance of lush, green nature. Why not take up the invitation and recharge your batteries?
During your stay at Le Fort du Pré, you will be able to discover the many charms of Auvergne. In addition to the hills and woodlands that make up its beautiful landscape, you will be amazed by its architectural heritage. Near the hotel, you can explore the unique city of Puy-en-Velay or the even more impressive village of Arlempdes.
Located on the border of Ardèche, the hotel is a great base from which to explore this stunning department of France. Travel the roads of the Haut Vivarais region and explore its capital, Annonay, built around its old Medieval centre. There are also a number of historical villages nearby that have preserved a rich heritage, such as Desaignes, which are also well worth a visit.
